New retail store technology setup - network, CCTV & more!

When one of our retail clients moved to a bigger, brighter location, it marked the end of a frustrating period. Having purchased the business two years earlier, they were locked into a small, outdated space with technology straight out of the early 2000s. So, moving to their new, expansive premises was more than a fresh start—it was a long-awaited upgrade! And that’s where we came in.


The Requirements

The client’s new location was a blank canvas. They didn’t just want to move—they wanted to get it right the first time, ensuring their technology infrastructure was top-tier from day one with everything from networking to CCTV, here is what we were tasked with doing:

  • Hardwired networking throughout all key areas: sales counter, workshop, and upstairs office
  • Installation of a brand-new, high-resolution CCTV system
  • Implementation of a secure, high-speed Wi-Fi network
  • Setup of advanced networking equipment to tie everything together

We also needed to move the existing technology such as the PC's, printers, phones and server to the new shop, which was just around the corner. This needed to be completed on a Saturday and everything needed to be up and running ready for the following Monday, which would be the first day of trade at the new shop.



Here is how we did it:

The solution

In total, we mapped out 28 network drops across the new shop, the network was centralised in a well-organized rack, supporting the client’s computers, printers, Wi-Fi, and CCTV system, which included provisions for future expansion.

Implementation 


Phase 1: We took care of all the heavy lifting ahead of time. Over four days, we installed the cabling, set up the Wi-Fi network, and implemented the CCTV system, making sure everything was organized and properly labeled.

Phase 2: The relocation. On a Saturday, we transferred all the client’s technology to the new shop—dusting off the equipment as we went (the grime buildup in the old space was a testament to how overdue the move was!). In just five hours, everything was moved, set up, and ready to go.

Outcome

By Monday morning, the client was up and running without a hitch, and their new space was not only functional but optimized for productivity.

We even fulfilled a last-minute request to upgrade the front counter PCs with dual monitors, enhancing workflow by allowing staff to handle POS software on one screen and parts lookups on the other.

Our client was thrilled with the outcome—from the smooth move to the efficient new setup. We pride ourselves on delivering seamless, stress-free transitions, and this project was no exception.
